Symbiosis

Stephan Renault

In “Symbiosis”, Stephan Renault depicts two hybrid figures facing each other: one fragile, vulnerable, perched high up, almost teetering on the brink; the other massive, dense, and commanding, wearing an imposing helmet, like organic armor ready to deploy. Their proximity creates an inseparable antagonism, where intensity becomes a bond, and their coexistence forms the essence of their identity.

With tones that create a gentle tension between depth and tranquility, the work—with its rocky colors and hues, ranging from grayish flesh tones to metallic shades—establishes a parallel universe that is both intimate and dreamlike. The grainy textures evoke skin, rock, or corroded metal and invite the gaze to move from one body to the other. This duality carves out space and reinforces the impression of a world apart, as if weightless, suspended between fragility and supernatural power.
