In “Destructuration”, Stephan Renault depicts a supernatural being lying in the golden light of a summer evening. Its silhouette, part saurian, part folkloric, seems to have sprung from ancient legends—a spirit of nature with a undulating body that follows the curves of the landscape. Its fragmented body, a collection of indeterminate organic limbs and ethereal undulations, appears to float in the warm air, halfway between a spirit of nature and a creature from folk tales.
Overlooking the scene, the spirit opens up to a horizon where the sea, the hills, and the sun-drenched sky echo one another, as if we were contemplating the world through the very gaze of this benevolent spirit. Warm colors, velvety textures, and supple forms bathe the composition in a restful fullness; accompanied by this peaceful creature, the work offers the viewer a refuge between dream and reality.
